Over my childhood I kept a number of “sketchbooks” but, in all honesty, those books were just blocks of paper. It wasn’t until 2017 that I picked up a sketchbook from Denik that I found at Michaels. The funny thing is, I didn’t even intend to use that sketchbook for its intended use. I often found myself drawing on spare sheets of paper, or work notes, and wanted to cut those out and affix them into this book as a sort of idea tracker. It worked for a while. I used it to keep track of thumbnails I had sketched for a jean jacket customization project, a tattoo, a leather jacket, and even wedding invitations.
Then 2020 happened. I began to work from home, everything was shut down, none of us could see each other, and I am immunocompromised, so I especially left the house as little as I could manage. Those scrap pieces of paper disappeared, and one day I found myself actually drawing on the pages of that same sketchbook and discovering I LOVE their sketchbooks.

During the pandemic, I used my newfound free time to discover new-to-me art techniques and ways to fill my sketchbook. Youtube, obviously, became a new home for me. Previously it was something I barely ever looked at, now it’s a website I frequent literally every day.
That’s where I discovered how artists were using their sketchbooks in unique ways. Not just for drawing, but for journaling, swatching, life tracking, and learning. I also found junk journals and the way some artists were using similar techniques to collage and make their pages something unique.

I’ve since found I no longer like flipping just through whatever we normally think of as a sketchbook when it comes to my art. I wanted mine to become a sketch journal. Entries about my day are accompanied by relevant sketches, some pages are full pieces of art, and the odd page is… awful. Because who has every page of their sketchbook filled with perfection?
Certainly not mine.
So my hope, with this area of my website, is to share the art I draw with these entries, and MAYBE even some of the personal events so that my art is a little more than all you know of me.
