Inspiration: DeviantArt’s 23rd birthday cake tutorial challenge

This piece is pretty self-explanatory. I followed DeviantArt’s tutorial on how to draw a birthday cake and then dressed it up. I love doing these challenges in my sketch journal, but this turned out super cute. I found it challenging drawing the ovals by hand when the tutorial was digital but had fun getting creative with the decorations on each tier. The bottom tier is inspired by the wedding cake I wanted but didn’t end up having, the second tier is based on a couple cute cakes I referenced online, and the top tier is cupcake themed with the DeviantArt logo on top. I struggle with hand lettering, so I opted to replace “23” with 2 candles on one side, and 3 on the other. Look… some of us have reached an age where you can’t just have the same number of candles as your age.
