10 years ago one of my bffs emailed me a story she had written and I began drawing a comic for that story. Unfortunately I knew nothing about drawing comics then, or even today, so I got a LOT of the way through it, only to give up before I finished the project.
We were talking recently about how I want a project with a friend and I picked it back up last night for inspiration. There was a cute panel with this pose, but close up with just their heads and shoulders. I could see this picture clear as day in my head, and ended up until 5am just doing the drawing and base colours.
In this part of the story, these two have rediscovered each other since being separated in childhood as friends. The mermaid on the left has just healed the girl on the right, and she is transformed into a mermaid after escaping a nearly deadly attack on the beach.
I’ve actually seen a very similar mermaid story cross the internet in a viral way since we started this project and neglected it. but for the differences that make it special to both Katie and I, I’d still like to create our version. Maybe make right mermaids struggles more relatable to ours.
