3D Printed Plastercine Bust (Dollarama), Acrylic Paint, Chalk Pastel, Modpodge, Mister Super Clear.
Rapunzel truly happened because of Pandemic boredom. While I worked from home I would make it a habit to go through the drive-thru at Tim Hortons every day for lunch. This way I saw the outdoors, spoke to other people, and had an experience that felt slightly normal, but it was still distanced. One day I dropped into Dollarama for something and took the irresponsible route of wandering the aisles for a bit. In the toy section, I spotted this kit.
She came out of the box rather rough. She had lines top to bottom from the 3D printed mould she was cast in, and there was both the issue of too much or not enough plaster in some places, including large chunks that had broken off from her hair. All of this was sanded down and repaired best I could do. It couldn’t be puttied because the putty fell off, so I sanded down the gaps in ways that looked as natural as I could make them look, but thankfully the sculpting of the face was actually spectacular.
Instead of the paint that came in the box I used my own craft and artist grade acrylics and supplies. This helped make her stronger (modpodge hardener) and more accurate in colour. It was also just a LOT of fun to paint this sculpture.
