Warning. This entry is SUPER image heavy.
If you follow my social media you might know that I got engaged in 2019! I proposed to my husband after holding on to his ring for 6 months waiting for the perfect moment.
…I bet you can guess what happened next.
We spent the next 10 months planning a wedding, putting down deposits, buying expensive clothing, and DIYing some pretty awesome stuff… only for the world to shut down 3 months before the big day.
Truth is, we DID get married in 2020. A friend of ours had a temporary permit to marry us on a single day and it just so happened that local restrictions opened up to 50 people outside literally the day before. So we had our parents and wedding party join us outside in my in-law’s backyard.

But the plan always remained that after Covid we would throw our full wedding and enjoy our time with our people, our plans, and the beautiful decor I had in mind for our nerdy aesthetic wedding.
Except… that didn’t happen. In 2021 my parents moved back to Newfoundland, and they recently came to visit us, except while they were here we got news that our venue wanted us to use our deposit this year. Even though it was a month out. Even though we couldn’t afford to pay off our other deposit (photographer). So not only could we not have the wedding we wanted, but we couldn’t even bring in the people we wanted to be there from out of town.
But it had to be done.

Due to the fact that the only professional photographer in attendance was an attendee and not a paid photographer, I didn’t get a lot of great photos of our setup, but I promise it looked very cute, and extremely garden party meets nerd meets shabby chic.

The flower walls were built over weeks of flower folding and thrifting between myself and my mom. My mom had the idea to start folding flowers out of tissue paper to fill in the gaps because we were struggling to thrift enough flowers fast enough. To be honest… I probably could have filled this up much more with silk flowers now that I’ve organized what I had left and built the bouquets for each vase, but the sheer amount of work that went into this by my mom really made it special to me when we finally got to use it since my parents couldn’t make it.
Extra special thanks goes to my Father-in-law, Chris, who built a frame for it that also easily comes apart so I can transport it to a couple friends weddings this summer!

The bouquets on the table are the bouquets I made for my bridesmaids, with the center florals being my bouquet. This is an example of the bridesmaids though. The bottom layer switches between orange and white flowers, while the top had white holographic roses, smaller pink roses, and blue flowers. Each stem was wrapped in a white satin ribbon with a touch of lace and a pearl. The tail is two 1/4″ white satin ribbons and 2 clear bead ropes with secured glass pearls and holographic beads.
Each table was set with a pastel tablecloth with a lace tablecloth on top. Each lace piece was unique as I spent several months thrifting them individually from all over my city. On top of that was a colourful vase either hand painted or covered in gold decals representing our favourite fandoms. Each table was a different fandom. The Lego, Critical Role, and D&D vases also contained minifigs and dice! Every vase contained water beads, LED lighting, and silk floral arrangements I spent the week before arranging with my maid of honour.

My original intention was to hand-paint each vase with designs complementary to a list of fandoms we had picked out together… but with Covid, we had no idea when our reception would happen or if at all. Then with less than 1 month’s notice that we would have to have our event, there wasn’t enough time to complete them all. So 3 years of delay turned into not enough time LOL.
My new plan was to decorate the remaining vases with gold vinyl. Unfortunately in the time span I needed it in I was stuck with the Cricut brand, which is not very high quality. So in some places they didn’t adhere very well, or curve with the shape all that nicely, but we made it work well enough. My favourites are the hand-painted ones for Frozen and Tangled, but the Doctor Who and D&D vases turned out really pretty.

The vases and flowers now sit on top of our cabinets in our kitchen.
Last, but not least, is me! I am a very untraditional bride (if you haven’t noticed), so I opted for an Ivory dress covered in flowers.

My dress was a floral ballgown from J’adore Evening. Each large bloom on the dress is accented with fabric flowers, the perfect amount of extra since traditional white dresses just weren’t doing it for me.
This dress isn’t actually labelled as a wedding dress at all. It’s labelled as “A perfect choice for Bridesmaid, Maid of Honor, Prom, Pageant, Red Carpet, Evening Gown, Quinceneara, Sweet Sixteen Dress.” but I think I made it work pretty well.

My bouquet matches the Bridesmaids, but it’s larger and flat on the back to hold against my body. The top is overwhelmingly full of white holographic roses, and I’m so glad I was able to get my hands on so many of them.

To make it easier, I am going to list what I can for accessories in a list of links.
